I think in Bassett Unified we support students in many, many ways. Our greatest goal is to ensure that we are providing a very strong academic foundation for our students. We are a professional learning community at every level. So our teachers work collaboratively for the success of all students, identifying those students who need more support, students who need enrichment and working together on a plan on how they can be successful. Bassett Child Development supports early learning through the use of our research-based curriculum. Those curricula support children's learning through all of their developmental areas. So our goal and our philosophical approach is to ready them for school. To have a head start. Over the last couple of years, we have really had a big focus on College and Career Readiness. Our strong belief is that that doesn't begin just at high school. That that begins at the elementary level. So we've spent a lot of time looking at how do we address the whole child and how do we improve those opportunities for kids? We are a No Excuses University school. We are preparing all children for college. When we push them, when we encourage them, we give them opportunities. They can be successful. When I grow up, I want to be a doctor. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher. When I grow up, I want to be a soccer player. When I grow up, I want to be a veterinarian and go to UCLA. So at Bassett Unified we believe that College and Career Readiness actually go hand-in-hand. We focus on having resources such as a College and Career Center, a College and Career advisor, various workshops on financial aid. In addition, we have dual enrollment, which is an excellent opportunity for students to take college-level courses while in high school. Dual enrollment is an incredible program that they brought to Bassett this year. It's a program that's partnered up with Mt. SAC, where a college professor comes to Bassett and teaches us first semester Multicultural Lit. and second semester English 1A. I recommend all the students in Bassett, I hope they can take it too. Because it's a good chance to save money while getting your college education while in high school so it kind of allows you that step ahead and all the resources are given to us so it's a really good program. The reason why I chose Bassett is mostly because of the Health Academy and their partnership Kaiser. I had the opportunity to do my internship, for a hundred hours. At only 16, because of Bassett, I am a certified medical assistant assistant. And then, from there, there's a lot of opportunities for you to show your potential and let people know that you're serious about the medical field and it could open a lot of new doors for you. We are very fortunate as Technology Integration Specialists to have a lot of support within our district. Everything from our superintendent to directors, they give us a lot of leeway with piloting programs. Right now our big technology initiative at Bassett Unified is rolling out or Digital Learning Initiative. It's important to get those tools into the hands of our students early because, increasingly, technology is becoming more and more a part of our world. And we want our students to have the technological know-how and be comfortable with technology. Jobs that our students are going to get after they graduate here, we don't even know what some of them are going to be. We want to make sure that they have the best preparation across a broad spectrum of subjects and technologies, so they can really excel when they leave Bassett Unified. If you were to talk to any member of our staff, they'll all tell you the same thing: It's a personal responsibility to make sure that the classroom environment and the classroom experience for our students is the best, is exactly what the students need in order to be able to achieve in the world. What makes me proud to work with students at Bassett High School is seeing students seeming happy to be there right now and seeming excited to get involved with things. I've had students coming up to me with new ideas for the last four weeks, "Mister, can I do this?" Yes! What support do you need from us? If I'm struggling with something, I know that I always have support. I can go to any teacher to talk about it. There's just a lot of places that are open for students to just walk in and you can get the help you need. I'm really proud to work at Bassett right now. I am honored to be a part of the collaboration that's happening between BTA, the District, and CSEA. It's exciting. It's an exciting time to be a part of Bassett. I hope that everybody will join us 'cause we're in it to win it and our kids are going to fly. Serving the students of Bassett, it's a true honor to be able to be a part of their educational journey and to be able to help them realize, not only their value as a student, but their value as a person.
