Welcome to Health Services

Mission
We serve our students' health needs at school and in all of life. We will ensure that all students receive the health screenings and immunizations needed to protect them throughout their lifetime. We will provide parents and all stakeholders with the information they need to help our children become healthy, successful lifetime learners.

California Healthy Kids Survey
The CalSCHLS system was created by the California Department of Education (CDE) in 1997 to efficiently and cost-effectively provide school districts and their partner communities with quality local data which can be used to improve student academic performance and social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health of all youth. It assesses key indicators linked to success in school, career, and life. The majority of districts in California now use CalSCHLS data as Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) indicators.
We will be taking the Healthy Kids Survey during the week of November 18th. For more information on the survey, please visit CalSCHLS.org

Type 2 Diabetes in Youth
California Education Code 49452.7 requires all incoming 7th grade students to receive information regarding type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes was rare in children a few years ago, but is becoming more common, especially for overweight youth. The factors associated with increased risk for Type 2 diabetes are being overweight, family history of diabetes, inactivity and certain specific racial/ethnic groups. Healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent the development of this and other diseases.

Healthy Students are Effective Learners!
To learn at their best, students should have a good night's sleep, eat regular healthy meals, be protected from vaccine preventable disease, and be tested regularly for correctable issues such as vision, hearing, and dental needs. A student with these tools is best ready to meet their academic needs.

Ready For 7th Grade?
All students entering seventh grade are required to have a "Tdap" vaccine prior to enrollment, per California State Law. This vaccine will immunize them against Pertussis, a serious respiratory disease, which can be fatal. Both for their protection, and so they will be allowed to pick up their class schedule for the new year, please immunize your child before they come to enroll in the seventh grade.

(If you also have a 6th grade student, we suggest you "get ahead of the game" by taking them to be immunized at the same time!)

For more information about Immunizations, please click on "Immunizations & Screening" in the navigation pane on the right.
