Superintendent of Schools
A Message from Your New Superintendent
Dear Bassett Community,
It is with a full heart, and a deep sense of purpose, that I introduce myself as your new Superintendent. My appointment officially began July 1st, but I will look forward to joining you in-person, in the district, starting July 6th.
The role of Superintendent is an honor and privilege for me. Serving as Bassett USD Superintendent is an opportunity I worked hard for, and I take the trust placed in me seriously.
In the months ahead, I look forward to connecting with all of you in classrooms, at school gates, connecting with district personnel, and attending community events. I undertake my new role eager to listen and learn, because what makes Bassett special is the people: the dedication of our staff, the strength of our families, and the promise of our students. I am grateful and excited to join the Bassett community.
Based on what I have learned about the Bassett community already, I do carry a few convictions into this work, ones that will guide how I show up every day:
Family. I believe Bassett USD functions best because of the family atmosphere, tight knit feel, and strong bonds between home and school. I am proud to be part of a district where every child is known, every voice is heard, and every person feels like they belong to something bigger than themselves. As a husband and father, myself, I want to build on that sense of unity and purpose.
Inclusive. I believe every voice in our district matters. Regardless of ability, background, circumstance, language spoken, I value and respect everyone for the qualities and strengths they possess. Bassett's strength is its diversity, and I am committed to making sure every family and staff member sees themselves as critical partners in making our schools successful.
Student-Centered. Every decision I make will be filtered through one question: is it good for our students? The answer may involve difficult work or be different from what has always been done, but what matters is that we serve the students in front of us today. I am committed to making our district a place where I would send my own sons.
I am excited to get started because I believe deeply in the potential of Bassett USD, and I am honored to build this next chapter alongside you. My door, and my ears, will be open, and I look forward to earning your trust one conversation at a time.
With gratitude and commitment,
Anthony E. Ortiz, Ph.D.
Superintendent, Bassett Unified School District
